Everyone knows that as your get older, your body just does not seem to like you. When I hit 40, it was painfully apparent that I just didn’t have the flexibility, strength or recovery times that I used to. My back and hips seemed to always hurt and every movement I made sounded like something was breaking. That’s when I knew I had to do something. I have always been in pretty good shape. A runner when I was younger, I was able to go out and jog for an hour or so and feel great afterward. But until recently, running was not an option because of the back pain that came the next day. I was ready to make a change.
Here is my review of Unlock Your Hip Flexors program.
Hip Flexors. Ever Heard Of Them?
Upon doing some research, I found the Unlock Your Hip Flexors program and bought it. The thing that really made me take a look at it was the focus on strengthening the core muscles in a smart way.
Honestly, I didn’t even know what a hip flexor was when I got started. In case your don’t know, your hip flexors are the muscles that attach your spine to your pelvis. If you want to learn more about what a hip flexor is, here’s a link that explains it better than I could.
So, these hip flexors sound pretty important, right? Well they are.
You use them with just about any motion that you make. Here are just a few of the movements we all make that use the hip flexors:
- Sitting Down
- Standing Up
- Standing Still
- Laying Down
- Rolling Over
That’s pretty important for a muscle group that you have never really heard of, wouldn’t you say?
From what I have learned throughout this process, most people don’t use their hip flexors enough to keep them in good shape. Because more people sit for their jobs than ever before, hip flexors are just not moved and stretched. This leads to back pain and hip pain from weak core muscles.
Other Effects Of Weak Hip Flexors
Even beyond the discomfort of hip and back pain, there are other things that can come from having weak hip flexors. Here are just a few of them:
- Poor Posture
- Lack of energy/sleepiness
- Digestive Issues
- Difficulty Sleeping
- Poor Circulation
- Impaired Immune System
I’m not sure that hip flexors are the sole cause of these issues, but they do have an effect on them. When you think about it, strengthening your hip flexors does make sense simply because they are at the center of everything you do.
So, how do you strengthen your hip flexors?
Finding Hip Flexor Targeted Workouts
Do you remember the exercise balls from the late 80’s and early 90’s? We had one when I was a kid. My mom got it for Christmas or something. (probably from my dad. He never was good at gifts. Ha!)
It was this huge gray ball that had rings imprinted around it. My sister and I would try to play catch with it. That was until I threw it too hard and it knocked her down.
Anyway, those things were so popular because they were suppose to be a good “core muscle” workout. Well, they were unless your kids hijacked it for backyard play. I still see them today in gyms and garage sales. Someone even invented an office chair that held one of these balls so you could workout your core muscles while working. Great idea.
But the problem with these core workout balls was that it didn’t really target the hip flexors properly. What I learned, and am still learning, is that hip flexors are harder to workout than bicep and calf muscles. Even though you use them all the time, getting a good workout takes some very specialized movements. While there are some out there, few focus on these extremely important hip flexors and have the results that Unlock Your Hip Flexors does.

My Results From Unlock Your Hip Flexors… So far….
I have been using the program for about a month. So far, I am pretty impressed. The biggest thing I have noticed is that I just feel better. No more sore hips when waking up in the morning.
Another subtle but impactful change is that I am more flexible. You don’t realize all of the shortcuts you make when you just cannot move like you want or need to. I put my socks on standing up again. I have been sitting down to do this for a couple of years and didn’t really realize why.
Standing is another place that I have found improvement. I stand straighter and for longer. I’m noticing that I don’t feel the need to sit after a short time. This is nice because it seems in social situations, the best conversation happen while standing.
I am running again. Well, maybe we should call it jogging in between walks, but I am going to get there. Don’t get me wrong, I am still sore after a couple of miles, but it’s not bad enough for me to want to quit.
Everyday, I get up and go through the Unlock Your Hip Flexors program. It does not take long and I actually have come to look forward to it and enjoy it.
One tip I would give you, is to make sure to keep track of your progress. I didn’t do this in the very beginning as well as I should have. Now I make some quick notes once a week or so on how I have improved. This makes it easy to see how far I have come and set goals on where I want to be.
